Just when I'd started to lose faith in Amazon's ability to innovate, they send out a press release like this (via Giz). Today, as part of the Windows 7 roll-out, Amazon announced the launch of "Kindle for PC", a free application for reading Kindle books. On a normal PC, it'll allow you to save and bookmark your place across devices. If you read ten pages on your desktop and switch over to your Kindle, you'll find your book has advanced to the spot you left off at just a few moments ago. Also; color photos.
Where this new app really shines, however, is with multitouch PCs and tablets. Kindle for PC allows you to turn pages with a finger swipe, use pinch text zooming, and can take advantage of an accelerometer to allow you to rotate pages. I've got to say, this app sounds perfectly designed for a Win 7 tablet. Imagining it loaded onto the Courier is just, well, droolworthy.Posted on Thu, 22 Oct 2009 11:09:14 CDT | by Robert Evans
