Alright, so you've been following the progress of the Motorola Droid since it was called the Sholes. You waited with bated breath until the official pricing and availability were announced. Now you've got the money in hand and a burning desire to turn it into a high-end smartphone. The question is...where should you buy it from?
Best Buy sent out a press release today announcing that the Droid is now available for pre-order. It'll cost you $199.99 with a 2 year Verizon contract, which is the same price you'll find everywhere else. What sets Best Buy apart, however, is the way they handle rebates. The normal rebate process is a huge hassle, and customers often fail to send in for their rebates as a result.
Best Buy cuts through all of that crap by automatically adding in the rebate discount to your purchase. You pay the after-rebate price, and they file the paperwork themselves. Anywhere but Best Buy, the Droid will cost $299.99, with a $100 rebate. According to Gizmodo the rebate is dispensed as a $100 debit card, and not just sent as a check. I don't want to be a shill for a big box company here, but this is a hard deal to top. No one has ever died wishing they'd spent more time filing for rebates.
