For short time the HP Mini 110 Windows 7 netbook lead the Amazon Netbook sales charts last week. Now the first three places are taken up by Windows XP netbooks again. Why is that? Customers still prefer XP over Windows 7 Starter? Is it the price? Do customers do not know that there is a Windows 7 version available? Let’s have a closer look at this situation.

The bestselling netbook is again the Asus Eee PC 1005HA-PU1X like in the weeks before the Windows 7 launch.

The Asus Eee PC 1005HA-PU1X sells for $358.89 on Amazon.com.
Amazon even points out on the Asus Eee PC 1005HA-PU1X product page that there is a Windows 7 Asus Eee 1005HA netbook with the 1005HA-PU17-BK available. Amazon says even that the Windows 7 Starter version offers longer battery life, wakes from sleep faster, and boots up more quickly than the 1005HA running Windows XP. Plus, it features a bigger 250GB hard-drive.
The blue ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1005HA-PU17 sells for $376.95 on Amazon.com, which is only $18.06 more expensive than the old XP 1005HA. Still, the Windows 7 Eee PC 1005HA is only on 4th place.

I actually have no explanation, besides customers still prefer XP on a netbook. $18 bucks is really well worth getting a larger HDD and Windows 7. I am an XP fan and I still use it writing this story on my PC, but if I buy a new hardware today it will run Windows 7.
