CPU Shipments Grow 23% in Q3 2009

Research firm IDC has released its numbers for CPU shipments in Q3 2009. According to the firm, CPU shipments grew 23% over the quarter compared to Q2 2009. That is about two times the normal growth quarter to quarter.
IDC reports that the CPU market grew 14% on revenue ending the quarter at $7.4 billion in total sales. Mobile PC processors continue to drive growth in the market. The Intel Atom line of processors for netbooks increased in shipments 35.7% for the quarter.
Shipments of desktop PC processors grew 11.4% compared to Q2 and x86 server processors grew 12.2% compared to Q2. Intel grabbed 81.1% of the total processor market for the quarter with AMD netting 18.7%, a loss of 2%.
