Holy hell, gaming has just reached a new milestone. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (CNet) has just shattered sales records across the board. Activision has already sent out a statement declaring it the "biggest entertainment launch in history." And no, that's not just hype.

In its first 5 days of sales, Modern Warfare 2 made around $550 million. That beats out the largest worldwide box office opening in history, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which "only" raked in $394 million. It also beats the U.S. Box Office record holder, the Dark Knight, which managed just $203.8 million.

Activision reports more than 4.2 million multiplayer hours logged during the first day alone, and 2.2 million unique gamers playing it on Xbox live on November 10th.
