The NUVO walking humanoid robot for home security and entertainment is going on sale in Japan for a whopping 588,000 yen (~$5,500).

We reported about ZMP Inc.'s NUVO robot the first time in March 2004. Now those robots with the little head are actually available for purchase.

The NUVO has a digital camera installed in its eyes and can take photos and send them to a mobile phone, enabling owners to check their home while they are away.

The NUVO robot is 39cm tall and weighs 2.5kg. It can walk around and react to human voices. ZMP Inc. is positioning the robot as a fashionable accessory for stylish homes. Sales of the robot starts in April.
If Wow Wee would integrate a digital camera and a WLAN or mobile phone interface into their Robosapien robot, they sure would still stay way below $5,500.
