Last year the Sony PSP UMD movie sales were still promising. Now studios start to pull back and release fewer or no movies on UMD format.
Video Business Online reports that UMD movie sales falling below expectations and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, Paramount Home Entertainment and Warner Home Video are cutting back on movie releases.
Top UMD titles still sell over 100,000 copies. On average though they only sell about 50,000 copies. Top UMDs are comedies like Napoleon Dynamite and Sony is planning to release more of those.
I mean selling UMDs is 'free' additional revenue for the studios. I am all for those DVD UMD combo packs Sony is supposed to release. Those packs should only be a couple bucks more than the DVD alone. This would be fair to Sony PSP owners. The The Grudge UMD DVD pack will sell for $20.29 for instance.
The $12 OFF, when buying two UMD movies on Amazon.com is still available.
More DVD UMD Packs:
The Terminator DVD / The Terminator UMD (2-Pack)
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (Special Edition) DVD / Crouching Tiger, Hidden
Dragon UMD (2-Pack)
Resident Evil DVD (Deluxe Edition) / Resident Evil UMD (2-Pack)
Underworld (2003, Special Edition, Widescreen) DVD / Underworld UMD (2-Pack)
