It was said that this lawsuit could kill TiVo if lost. The good news is that TiVo won $73 Mio. of the $87 Mio. they were suing for.
Shares of TiVo jumped 20% on the news. Apparently TiVo has sold 190,000 TiVo boxes so far and lost $650 million in its 9 years being on the market. So they really can use the $73 Million.
TiVo states in the response to the Jury decision that they hold 87 patents and have 138 patents pending.
Digital Video recorders are becoming more common. For instance have new no-name DVB-T tuners already a built-in HDD recorder. And I do not think those have a licensed TiVo inside. TiVo needs to stay ahead of the curve to stay alive.
