Japanese D-Clue Technologies Co. offers a tiny WiMax chip that can be integrated on mobile phone circuit board.
The D-Clue DC11 series WiMax amplifiers measure only 5x5mm. These chips can boost the input signal 50x, apparently enabling you to operate as far away as 50km from a WiMax base station.
So maybe we will soon have HSDPA, Wi-fi and WiMax connectivity on cellphones.
The verdict about the success of WiMax is still out. WiMax is for instance commercially deployed in Austria by a company called WiMax Austria.
More details on Nikkei.Net (Subscription) and on the D-Clue site.
