Japanese DS owners will soon be able to browse the net on their Nintendo device. The browser is Opera, the Internet client responsible for the DS online functionality. Opera will also be handling Wii's ambitious online service.

The DS browser will be sold as a DS/GBA dual cartridge pack. The GBA cart's main function will just be as a memory expansion pack for the DS. The package will be sold for 3,800 yen ($33).
With the DS's touch-screen, Internet browsing should work much better than the PSP browser. It would essentially be the same as surfing the net on a PDA. Also, with the DS/Wii connectivity, you'll be able to browse the Web big-screen style even when you don't have a computer (e.g. at a hotel).

I'm also very interested in the GBA expansion pack. Since the DS has no built-in memory, this opens up a lot of possibilities. This may be how Nintendo intends to market the content that will be available in the DS Station online store (mentioned here).

No official details have been released about the DS browser for other markets, but I'd be surprised if it didn't make its way to the US/EU/AU crowd soon. We first reported about the Nindendo DS browser the first time in April.
