A little scandal at the IFA 2006 happened today. German Heise reports that customs officials seized MP3 players from the Sandisk booth.
Update:
Sandisk overturned Seize, IFA is over anyway
Italian Sisvel is behind this action. They hold strong patents in the mpeg audio technology. Most other mp3 player manufacturers already pay licenses to Sisvel.
Creative just recently started to pay license fees to Sisvel.
About two weeks ago information of Sandisk being in court battles with Sisvel has appeared. See also coverage of the Sandisk mp3 player seizure at Digital-LifeStyles.
Behind Sisvel (S.I.SV.EL. S.p.A) are actually Philips and France Telekom amongst others.
Trade shows are a common venue for companies to take their legal battles out of the court room. Last year at the CeBit, Apple had its fun with the maker of the Super Shuffle.
