More Notebooks and PCs News
Lately we have been talking a lot about multiple core processors for computers. While currently the big push is towards quad core CPUs being available to retail customers, Intel is showing off an 80 core CPU.
Intel’s CEO Paul Otellini is seen holding a silicon wafer with the prototype chips in the image to the left. Intel claims that 80 core chips will be commercially available in the next 5 years.
The 80 core monster is said to be able to exchange data at a whopping one terabyte per second. Each of the 80 cores is running at 3.16 GHz and Intel plans to use an on-chip interconnect fabric and stacked SRAM.
