PCI Express 2.0 is getting ready to be released and News.com says that PCI Express 2.0 is on a two-month count down to release. Several important changes are being made to the current PCI Express standard; one of the most interesting for gamers with an eye on the upcoming NVIDIA G80 graphics cards is an increase in the amount of power that can be fed to graphics cards via the PCI Express bus.
PCI Express 2.0 will be able to feed cards that require 225W or 300W of power all they need without extra dongles or external PSUs. However, the most important feature of the new 2.0 spec is an increase in data transfer rate. The new PCI Express 2.0 doubles the current PCI Express data transfer rate from 2.5 Gbps to 5 Gbps. The new specification is also supporting PCI Express Cable allowing PCI Express devices to be connected by copper cable of up to 10 meters at 2.5 Gbps per line.
