UK's gaming magazine EDGE drops some Wii infos in its current issue including that Nintendo will release a premium Nintendo Wii console with DVD movie playback support next year in Japan.

That the Wii cannot play DVD movies is seen as a small downside. It would be a space saver in the kid’s room to not have to place an extra DVD player in there.

DVD support of course does not take the Wii into the Xbox 360 and Sony PS3 league where we talk HD DVD and Blu-ray support.
In other news Nintendo signed CNN for the Wii news channel. Is the Internet on the TV finally going main stream?
