Bless LG’s little digital heart for coming up with these hybrid Blu-ray HD DVD drives that let geeks have their cake and eat it too. However, it appears that you can’t write HD DVD with the Super Multi Blue GGW-H10N.
What you can do though is play back the HD DVD content and write to BD-R and BD-RE in addition to the usual CD and DVD formats. Blu-ray 50 GB disks can be written as well as 25 GB single layer BD-R disks. This dual format pleasure doesn’t come without some pain which is in the form of the asking price which LG has set at $1200. That’s almost as painful as a kick to the groin. The image here is grabbed from Engadget, and seems to not be the real drive but no pictures of the real thing are available yet. Availability is set for March. Story and image via Engadget.
