Some of the coolest items that I have seen at today’s CES show were from Viewsonic. Viewsonic is a popular maker of LCD displays and TVs and what you might not think of Viewsonic for are projectors. Today I was able to see several new projectors from Viewsonic that should make a big impact on the market.
The most interesting projector was called the PJ503D. This projector has 1500 lumens of brightness, 800 x 600 SVGA resolution, uses DLP technology and sports a throw distance of 60 – 236 inches. Those specs may make you wonder why exactly I was so impressed by the projector; all this has been seen and done for a long time. What hasn’t been seen or done with a projector of this type is a price point of $399 all day every day. At that price I expect to see lots of these moving into people’s homes. This is the perfect low cost big screen projector for use with PC or Mac based content. Business users will also find that it is a fantastic low cost presentation projector. Note that these specifications are preliminary and subject to change. No precise launch date has been set but I am hearing sometime in March is likely. A Viewsonic rep told me that the projector would also most likely be black in color when it was ready to go to market rather than the white pictured above.
