The best gadget at CES 2007 (we think so, and CNET awarded the BH100 Best in Show), the LG BH100 might be in jeopardy.
First the good news: Electronics retailer Best Buy already listed the LG BH100 Super Multi Blue Player BH100. You cannot pre-order it yet though, but still this is a good sign.
Now for the bad news: BetaNews (via Gizmodo) reports that the DVD Forum might not certify the player as HD DVD player due to the lack of HDi/iHD support.
LG said the BH100 supports BD-J, the Blu-ray interactive menu solution and not the HDi system used for interactive menues on HD DVD disc. If LG does not get certification from the HD DVD backers, they cannot call it a HD DVD player.
Now we have to wait and see how LG is reacting to this. I hope there will be a solution that will bring the BH100 onto the market without delay. The best would of course that LG puts in a bit more work and supports HDi with the BH100 as well.
The LG BH100 Blu-ray and HD DVD player is supposed to come in February at a price of $1,199.99.
