SanDisk SSD vs HDD for Boot Up and Shut Down Speed

While I was at CES last week I wandered over to the SanDisk booth and checked out their SSD disk demo. This demo compared the speed of the SSD disk to the speed of a standard HDD when booting up and shutting down and needless to say the difference was pretty impressive.
The links in this post will take you to the video I shot of the race between old school HDD and the new SSD tech. What I hadn’t really considered with the SSD disks was the performance increase when launching apps and shutting down. Everyone seems to harp on the performance increase you see when booting up, but you also get great improvements in the speed at which your applications launch and after a long day the system shuts down much faster and for those of you that lean towards slacking at work it can get your game of solitaire off the screen that much faster if the boss heads your way. Check out the video and see for yourself.
