Stanford's Junior Robot Car

Stanford showed it's current state of their robot car for the DARPA Urban Challenge 2007 in Palo Alto, CA.

Stanford's AI team has developed Stanley's successor, named "Junior" (after Stanford University founder Leland Stanford Jr.). Junior is a modified 2006 Volkswagen Passat (Boring! - suggestion use an Audi R8).

The new autonomous robot cars for the DARPA Urban challenge need to survive the traffic we humans handle everyday. Stanford's AI team uses for the Junior prototype high-definition lidar detection system by Velodyne and a Point Grey Ladybug 2 video system with six video cameras to capture near high-def video in all directions, amongst other sensors to create a real-time awareness of the urban situation.
Junior will be officially introduced at the annual conference of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (site).
You can find more details and photos in this CNET preview of Junior.
