Robotic Parking Garage Crams More Cars into Less Space
Posted on Thu, 8 Mar 2007 16:00:00 CST | by Shane McGlaun | Topic: Cars & Vehicles
New York City is going the way of Tokyo, with parking anyway. The first robotic parking garage is now running in NYC. The machine has sensors and lasers that ensure your car is on the platform correctly.
The same sensors also check to be sure that you aren’t inside the vehicle when it is packed away. The benefit of this robotic system is that it takes less space allowing for more cars to be stored, 67 in the same amount of space 24 cars would occupy to be precise. If you have ever wondered what the inside of one of the robotic garages looks like the guys at Popular Mechanics were able to send a camera through to record the entire 90 second retrieval process. At the end the guy has to pay $14 to get his ride back. Ouch. Story and image via Uber-Review
