Sony announced the new BRAVIA LCD HDTV series D3000 at the Sony Media Experience in Rhodes this week. At the BRAVIA workshop the positive effect Motionflow adds was very obvious.
Sony calls the 100Hz/120Hz technology for LCD TVs Motionflow +100Hz.
The Sony solution creates and adds extra frames based on the originals, causing the eye to perceive motion as far smoother and more realistic than in the unenhanced source. Motionflow +100Hz works with both sources using film-based contents and standard TV and DVD.
With the D3000 BRAVIA TVs 24p True Cinema experience is possible from Blu-ray movies. This feature is nice to have, but not a must. The 4% time difference over a whole movie when watching it on 25fps versus 24fps is not that noticeable. But hey, why watch a movie differently than it was originally produced? So 24p True Cinema should become a standard feature anyways.
If you do not want to deploy a surround sound system, the D3000 features Sony S-Force Front Surround technology that simulates surround sound.
Sony touts the BRAVIA Theatre Sync quite heavily. I really was not impressed to see the ability with one button push to have all components switch-on and the blu-ray movie starts to play. You could do this with i.Link since years and with any universal remote control. Sure it is nice that it now works via the HDMI cable, big deal.
Overall though I have to say that amongst all Sony product categories, the Sony BRAVIA TV offering is the one where Sony has really their act together and is on the cutting edge. The image quality is amazing. The new features like MotionFlow and x.v.Color make sense. And the TV design is ultra-clean and sexy. They have their price, they only thing that will stand in between BRAVIA TVs and many potential customers.
There will be a 46 inch D3000 series dubbed KDL-46D3000. No release dates have been named.
More details about the BRAVIA D3000 Series can be found in this Sony press-release. Compare Sony BRAVIA Prices.
