HD DVD players are on the market since 1 year and the HD DVD Group is celebrating 100,000 stand-alone HD DVD players sold in the United States.

Toshiba's pricing strategy of their HD DVD player apparently paid off. The stand-alone Blu-ray player got also cheaper, but the HD DVD players are heavily discounted on retailers like Amazon.com.

The Toshiba HD-A2 sells for $329.99 on Amazon.com.
The newly announced Toshiba HD-A20 (photo above) sells for $419.99 on Amazon.com.

Sony's Blu-ray camp bet it all on the Sony PS3. The stand-alone sales are way behind as pricing is is still very high. The Samsung BD-P1000 Blu-Ray Disc Player comes closest on Amazon.com with a price of $489.77.

With titles like The Complete Matrix Trilogy coming in May from Warner Home Video, and more than 70 new titles expected to be released before the end of July, HD DVD owners will have more than 300 titles worldwide to choose from this summer, with more to come in the fall and holiday seasons.
The Matrix Trilogy is going Blu-ray later this year.
