Today Sony is showing off three new camcorders that record in full 1080 video on Memory Stick Media and internal HDD. While the release doesn’t come out and say 1080p or 1080i, it does say full HD which in Sony speak means 1080i not 1080p.

The first new model is the HDR-CX7 which is the world’s smallest and lightest HD camcorder. It records video directly to an 8GB Memory Stick Pro DUO media card, which can store up to three hours of 1080 full HD video. The camcorder weighs in at only 15 ounces with the battery and connects to your PC via USB for video editing and backup. Those with Blu-ray or HD DVD burners should be able to archive the videos in full HD as well.

The next new model is the HDR-SR7 AVCHD which utilizes a built in 60GB HDD good for 22 hours of full HD 1080 video. The final model is the HDR-SR5 which only differs in the size of the HDD which is only 40GB. Both versions use Sony’s HDD protection to reduce data loss and can connect to your PC for editing and backup.
"Camcorder users are quickly embracing non-linear camcorder formats, such as hard disk drive and flash media, because they make it easy for anyone to view and access footage quickly," said Linda Vuolo, director of camcorder marketing at Sony Electronics. "Our models offer the added advantages of superior high-definition picture quality. With the widest range of consumer high-def models, we can satisfy the needs of virtually everyone."
