The Nikkei Friday morning edition reports that Maxell (Hitachi) is also developing a 200GB Blu-ray disc.
TDK has anounced a 200GB Blu-ray disc already in August 2006.
200GB Blu-ray discs carry 8 layers of data on a single side. Standard Blu-ray discs have a capacity of 50GB.
Hitachi thinks to be able to commercialize the optical technology in around 2009. Storage technology is currently not the barrier; it is more a question of having great content and devices that can leverage the fidelity of the content.
