Last week we reported about Samsung showing a LCD TV with white LED back lighting. Now NEC announces also BLU module based on white LED at the SID 2007. Looks like this is a new trend.
NEC solution is a 6.5-inch amorphous-silicon thin-film-transistor (TFT) liquid crystal display (LCD)
module with high luminance and extended graphics array (XGA) resolution.
The white LED module eliminates the need for an
inverter circuit by employing a white light emitting diode (LED) for
backlight instead of the cold-cathode fluorescent lamp (CCFL) that is
traditionally used. This innovation produces low power consumption and a
slim design that, while lightweight, is highly resistant to vibration and
impact, making it ideal for use in portable display systems in industrial
applications.
In addition to the 6.5-inch module, NEC LCD Technologies also offers a
new 15.3-inch color LCD module, part number NL12876BC26-25, with wide XGA
(WXGA) resolution.
Both products will be showcased in NEC Electronics
America's booth #1235 at the Society for Information Display (SID)
Symposium 2007 in Long Beach, California, May 22-24.
