The community of the KiSS Technology digital video recorders has released a press-release to voice their frustration with the support of the Danish based company, which is owned by Linksys a subsidiary of Cisco.
Specifically owners of KiSS DP-558 and VR-558 DVRs are having problems with their digital recorders to perform stable. KiSS has promised fixes, but apparently has still not delivered it.
The Belgium based MPC Club Community provides fixes that void the warranty, but make the recorders work.
The MPC Club is threatening to drop the community support for KiSS products. Not sure if Linksys cares.
The problem is that the KiSS DVRs are still the best ones you can get feature-wise in Europe.
You have to know that Europe is still in the DVR stone-age. TiVo if you read this, please consider bringing your boxes and service to Europe. We need you!
Simple features like record all episodes of a TV show are not to be found in most DVRs in Europe. The KiSS player has that capability.
A friend of mine has a KiSS DP-558, and it works fine if you know what not to do with it, e.g.: watching a pre-recorded show while recording.
Read the MPC Club Community press-release for more details.
