I live on a steady diet of gadgets, computer hardware and a broadband connection. The thought of taking all three with me on the road and still being able to get a usable internet connection via WiFi makes me all giddy with anticipation.
The last few weeks has seen Avis rolling out in car WiFi in some of its rental fleet where for an additional $10.95 per day you can get your own rolling web connection. Avis promise a connection at all times and places, which is a bit boastful if you ask me.
If you do not want to rent your mobile hotspot, you can opt to buy the same gear and put it into your own car with Autonet’s in-car router that will ship this summer for $399 plus a $49.95 monthly access fee for unlimited data. All I can say is that if you come to my area and promise me mobile web surfing, you had better come with more than a wussy EVDO connection at 2 Kbps. This is Texas after all, we can shoot you for that sort of thing. via Crave
