This is one far out story sounding more like something Greg Bear would write in a sci fi story than a project one of our governmental agencies would be working on. DARPA, who teamed up with Dan Quale to invent the Internet, are set on a new task.
They are looking to develop metamaterials with some freaky properties to give to our soldiers. They are talking about shields that allow your soldiers to fire through them, but don’t allow enemies to fire through them.
Can they pull it off? Who knows, at some point the idea of an entire planet being connected through a series of networked computers seemed really far fetched. Perhaps Dan Quale can help them pull this one out too. Via Danger Room
