Last week the guys over at Hobbytron sent me a big box of toys to check out including the Cessna 182 I reviewed, a sweet RC helicopter and a mystery toy as they called it. Turns out the mystery toy was this really cute little Nemo fish that is remote controlled.

If you have kids you have no doubt seen Nemo more times that should be allowed by law. While this little toy isn’t “officially” Nemo he is a clown fish that is very Nemoesque. Size wise the toy is small enough to be used inside some aquariums as well as small children’s swimming pools and the bathtub.

The Nemo fish itself is rechargeable and gets its power from a blue rectangular charging station that has six AA batteries inside of it. The fish charges enough for about 15 minutes of play time in about 2 minutes on the charger. The hand held controller also uses three AA batteries for power.

Rather than an on/off switch on the fish itself, it is turned on and off via a jumper just like you would see inside a computer that is covered in orange plastic. Place the jumper onto the Nemo fish and the eyes glow blue to let you know it is powered up. Drop the little fish into the tub and hold him under water long enough for him to stabilize by taking in water and you are ready to play.

Each side of the fish has one propeller. When the fish goes forward both props spin clock-wise, hit the back button and the propellers spin counter clock-wise. You can also turn the fish right and left which turns off the prop on the side to which you wish to move. During forward motion the upward angle of the twin props helps to push the Nemo toy underwater making Nemo dive.

The little propellers spin very quickly but if you touch them they are easily stopped from spinning and won’t hurt your children. The little fish moves much faster than you would expect through the water and my kids just loved the toy. This is the first time I have ever seen a toy of this type and your kids will love it too.

The toy is intended for children ages 4 and up, however, that is due to the small jumper I suspect and not because the toy is difficult to operate. Both my five year old son and my two year old daughter were able to control the Nemo toy without issues. If your kids don’t like taking a bath this is one tub toy that will have them begging for bath time.
