Characters & Gameplay
Boom Blox is a Wii exclusive game that has several different game modes with play available for single players and multiple players. The gameplay has you smashing and blowing up different type of blocks as you progress through levels with increasing difficulty.

The player doesn’t have a character like you would normally find in a video game, but a supporting cast of more than 30 characters is available. The characters take on a very blocky appearance and vary from dogs to sheep and more. You can associate a character with your game profile. There are multiple profiles to allow all the members of the family to have their own profile and progress at different speeds through the game.

Multiplayer
The gameplay itself is varied and very fun. In multiplayer you can pit two players against each other in a battle to get the most points or you can play a co-op mode where the two players work together to gain enough points to move from one level to the next. Some of the levels are easy to beat and some will have you returning several times before you pass.

The multiplayer levels vary from shooting things using the Wii remote in an old school Duck Hunt style to choosing and removing logs from a tower without dropping baby cows or blocks that take away points. The levels that require you to remove logs are very much like a digital version of Jenga. The game physics are very good and if you hit the wrong log while pulling one you can topple the whole tower or cause it to rock back and forth.

Single Player
In the single player game player’s start at one basic level helping the Baahs get the games they need which are atop towers. To get the gems down you throw baseballs at the tower structure or the gems themselves. The less throws it takes you to get all the gems the higher your score with ranking based on gold, silver and bronze.

At times you will use things other than baseballs to get the gems like bowling balls and exploding bombs. You also use a water hose and laser gun at different points in the game. As the player progresses levels get harder and harder to finish.

Level Editor
Boom Blox also features a level creator that uses items you win and unlock as you progress through the game. Once unlocked in normal gameplay you can use the items, backdrops and characters to create your own levels that you can then destroy. The custom levels created by players can also be shared over WiiConnect24 with other players. There is no method for playing multi-player over the Internet.

Final Thoughts
Spielberg says that he hopes Boom Blox will be fun for the entire family, and he certainly delivers; my entire family spent hours happily playing Boom Blox together. Usually the games I play aren’t anything my kids or wife likes and vice versa. Boom Blox on the other hand is a game that we all liked and had a lot of fun playing. The game is rate E for everyone and the controls are exceptionally easy to use and learn for gamers of all ages. Boom Blox is the family game to have for the Wii.
