Specifications
The Ultimate Ears 700 Noise-Isolating Earphones are in-ear earphones with a frequency response of 10Hz to 16.5Hz and an impedance of 40 ohms at 1 kHz. The sensitivity for the earphones are 113 dB SPL/mW at 1 kHz and they weigh only 0.41 ounces. The noise-isolating design of the earphones blocks 26dB of sound.

The cable is 46-inches long and the Input connector is a 3.5mm unit. Included with the earphones is a pocketsize hard case, soft silicone ear tips in small, medium, and large sizes as well as a pair of Comply foam ear cushions. The earphones are covered by a 1-year limited warranty.

In Use
Typically, earphones have driver housings that are larger than or at least as large as the ear tips themselves. The first thing I noticed about the Ultimate Ears 700 Noise-Isolating Earphones was that the dual drivers were housed inside enclosures on each side that were smaller than the ear tips. The small size means that each earpiece is very lightweight and can be comfortable worn for hours without any pressure points or issues caused by the weight of the earphones. Lighter weight also means that the earphones are easier to keep in place during intense activity like working out.

The Ultimate Ears 700 Noise-Isolating Earphones include an assortment of ear cushions. When I removed the earphones from the package, they were fitted with a set of the Comply foam ear cushions. These cushions work very much like foam earplugs you would wear when shooting or at a concerts to prevent hearing damage. To use the Comply ear cushions you pinch them between your fingers, insert them into the ear and the cushions take the shape of your inner ear to block sound and provide comfort. Personally, I found the Comply tips uncomfortable.

I opted to use the silicone medium size ear cushions and found that they worked fantastically for me. The fit was very comfortable and the tips kept the earphones in place securely while exercising and doing yard work even when not worn in the over-the-ear method recommended for activity.

The Ultimate Ears 700 Noise-Isolating Earphones cable is long enough that you can place your MP3 player into the little bins that most workout equipment at the gym offers without feeling as if you are going to jerk the player out of the bin if you turn your head. The 3.5mm headphone jack is thin enough to use on the first generation iPhone, which is what I used to test the headphones.

I have tried many earphones over the years and where most fall short is in the bass department. The dual-driver design of the Ultimate Ears 700 Noise-Isolating Earphones offers great mid and high range sounds while providing some of the deepest bass that I have heard from a set of earphones. The bass was so deep and satisfying that I found myself wondering on a few occasions if people near me could hear the music I was listening too.

I don't like to wear in-ear style earphones with the cables going over my ear; I find the cable to be bothersome while exercising. The lightweight of the Ultimate Ears 700 Noise-Isolating Earphones and the small size of the earphones allowed me to wear them without putting the cable over my ear no matter what I did. Several other sets of earphones I use routinely fall out of my ears from the jostling about that occurs during exercise and yard work, this was not a problem with the Ultimate Ears 700.
