The Performance Mouse MX uses 2.4GHz wireless technology to connect to the cool Logitech unifying receiver. The mouse has four buttons and is rechargeable. The Darkfield laser technology promises tracking on any surface including glass up to 4mm thick.

In Use
The Performance Mouse MX feels and operates much like the Anywhere MX mouse. The big difference in the two is that the Performance Mouse MX I am looking at today is a full-size mouse that is designed for use on a desk or in the home. The mouse uses a rechargeable battery and has a desktop charging stand.

The bad news for lefties is that the mouse uses an ergonomic right hand design. It has four buttons on the side that allow for navigation forward and backwards on webpages and a thumb button on the bottom of the mouse near where the thumb sits. A zoom button is also located under the two side buttons on the mouse. Using the Logitech software the buttons can be programmed for different functions.

I did have an issue with the placement of the side buttons. They are below the area where the thumb naturally falls when using the mouse, which is both good and bad. The position is good because you won’t hit the buttons by mistake. However, when getting used to the mouse I found myself having to search for the buttons frequently. After a bit of use the buttons are easy enough to find, they just take getting used to.

The mouse also has the cool freewheel scroll wheel and can be converted from freewheel mode to click mode by pressing a button directly under the scroll wheel. The big feature of the mouse is the Darkfield laser technology that allows tracking on all surfaces, including clear glass of at least 4mm thick.

In use the mouse tracks very well and worked flawlessly on all surfaces I tested it on. The mouse worked on glass, carpet, cloth, and glass. One of the best mouse features is that it can be charged while you use it.

The biggest issue with wireless mice for me is that I often forget to put them into the charging station to charge. The Performance Mouse MX can charge with a USB cable connected to your computer while you use it so you are never without power.

The Logitech unifying receiver is part of the Performance Mouse MX package. The tiny receiver is small enough that you don’t have to unplug it from your notebook when you travel. It also allows you to use your compatible keyboard and more than one mouse without needing to plug in other receivers. The mouse sells for $99.99.
