Set Up and Use
The hamster starter set is the easiest to assemble of all the accessories I have used for the Zhu Zhu Pets hamsters. The set comes mostly assembled and you simply snap the tops onto the round base of the starter set. This kit has all of the tunnels branching off that you connect all of the accessories to. Each section of the habitat has three tunnels branching off it. The kit comes with blocks that can block the doors up to prevent the hamsters from escaping if the starter set is all you have.

The bottom of the circular habitats is printed with furnishings to give the place a homey feel. My daughter loved to pretend she was bathing the hamsters or putting them to bed. The kit comes with one tunnel section to attach the two sections of the habitat. This is the accessory that you must have to be able to connect other accessories.

The hamster that we used with the starter set is the yellow Pipsqueek hamster. Pipsqueek is easy to operate and uses two buttons to control all of his movements and features. Both buttons are hidden under his fur at the front and back of the embroidered symbol on his back. The front button makes the hamster sounds activate and the back button sends Pipsqueek scurrying around the room. When you want the hamster to stop running around you hit the front button.

The only real downside to all of these hamsters is that there is no button to simply turn them off. When you are tired of playing the front button stops them from running, but they will continue to make sounds for a minute. This can be annoying if you are trying to get your kid to bed.

The mouse has two wheels on the bottom and a slider on the front that he scurries around on. The wheels have rubber grips so the hamster gets good traction on most surfaces and it can work on lower carpets. On thick carpets, the hamster tends to hang up.
