Assembly
Of all the accessories, that I have tried for the Zhu Zhu Pets, the Ramp and Slide was hands down the hardest to put together. The instructions are lacking and to support the ramp correctly you have to insert the little stick-like supports in a specific places.

Each of the little sticks is a different length and if you put it in the wrong place, the slide doesn't stand up straight. The instructions offer nothing more than a sentence saying insert supports. I ended up having to look very closely at the picture on the box and find through trail an error, which supports went where. For such a simply accessory, it was a pain to assemble.

In Use
The tunnel that runs up to the top of the slide is angled at the bottom to allow it to attach to the Hamster Starter set I reviewed previously. Other than the construction, the big issue I have with the Slide and Tunnel is that it simply doesn't work that well. The hamsters often stop in the middle of the tunnel and try to turn around. When they try to turn around the often end up stuck and you have to open the tunnel and straiten them out. Once they do make it to the top they got stuck more times than not. The front slider would end up in the air as the hamster crests the top of the tunnel and gets ready to transition to the slide.

That meant rather than sliding down the slide on their own as expected they simply bob up and down at the top of the slide. You end up having to give them a little push to get the hamster to slide on down. I would estimate that 90% of the time I had to give all four of the hamsters a push to get them to go down the slide.

As the parent who paid $40 for the accessory, I was a bit irritated by that fact. However, my daughter didn’t seem to mind and simply said, "go down Num Nums" and gave him a bit of a shove and went for the next hamster.

The problem is that the ramp is just a bit too steep and the hamster's small wheels lack the traction to push them over the slick transition to the slide. If the ramp was a bit longer or had a texture on the slide things would probably be OK. The reviewer in me wants to slam the products for poor design, but these things aren’t meant for me or other adults. They are toys made for kids and my kid tester didn’t miss a beat so I won’t beat up on the Ramp and Slide too badly.
