Specifications
The Insignia NS-BRDVD3 Blu-ray player is a standard size Blu-ray player and supports BD-ROM and DVD format media. The player supports full 1080p resolution and has Dolby Digital Decoder and a DTS decoder. A USB port is built-in and both optical digital audio and coaxial digital audio outputs are featured. Connectivity options include HDMI, and composite. The player ships with its own remote and supports Netflix streaming when connected via the Ethernet jack built-in. This is one of the lowest cost Blu-ray players to support BD Live.

In Use
The Insignia NS-BRDVD3 Blu-ray player is very easy to set up, especially if you are using a HDMI cable. Composite connections and optical or coaxial audio connections add to the complexity, but set up is straight forward and the instructions are clear enough that anyone should be able to do the setup.

I love that this cheap player supports Netflix streaming, which is a big deal today with a growing catalog of instant content. You do need a Netflix membership to use this feature though. Image quality is fantastic and is as good as the PS3 that I typically watch my Blu-ray movies on. I lack the hardware needed in my home theater to enjoy the HD sound options that the Insignia NS-BRDVD3 Blu-ray player supports, but it sounds great with Dolby Digital sound.

The player is a bit loud when working, which some may not like. Personally, the sound is not a bother to me, it's no louder than my DVR, and I like to watch movies with the volume up which eliminates the issue. If you watch movies at low volume levels, you may find the noise annoying.

The other gripe is the remote control; it is particularly finicky for the angle you hold it at while trying to use it. You have to aim just right or the remote functions don't work. With the player being newer, you may have issues getting it to work with universal remote controls too. You will need to add your own HDMI cable if you buy this player, it does not ship with one. Setting up the connected portion of the player can be a bit more challenging, but in my setup, it works extremely well. If your setup is complex, you may have more trouble here though.
