Xbox 3D Virtual World necessary to compete with Playstation Home?
We reported earlier today about Sony Playstation Home that will launch some time in 2008. If Sony does everything right it will be huge for the Sony PS3. I actually think Microsoft cannot afford to not launch a similar 3D virtual world for the Xbox 360.
Microsoft's Xbox 360 is loosing more and more coolness points. It all started with not having HDMI on the first generation of Xbox 360 consoles. Because Microsoft chose not to integrate a high definition drive inside the Xbox they came out with an HD DVD drive, which is now worthless as HD DVD died last week.

Sony Playstation Home to be best-looking 3D Online World
Sony Playstation Home Creative Director said in an interview with GamesIndustry that the upcoming Home virtual world will be the best-looking and most user-friendly online multiplayer experience. Hey, and I believe him.
The first demos of Playstation Home last year already looked amazing. Second Life graphics look rather poor compared to Playstation Home. Sony should not make the mistake though that graphics and user friendliness are the key to the success of Home alone.

Realeyes3D Provides Barcode Scanning Via Cell Phones
Realeyes3D has announced a breakthrough in the ability to allow digital cameras on cellular phones to read standard 1D barcodes. Realeyes3D says that until now decoding barcodes has required a dedicated optical reader.

"Our technology dramatically increases both the number of camera phones that can be used for 1D bar code scanning and the decoding performance of any camera phone, by increasing the number of bar code pictures that can be read," said Benoit Bergeret, founder and CEO of Realeyes3D. "Our unique deblurring technology enables mobile 1D bar code scanning to considerably expand its scope and accelerates the introduction of one-click m-commerce applications for the benefit of all camera phone users -- not just for high-end users anymore." Web Browsing in 3D with SpaceTime
I just tried out the 3D web browser from SpaceTime. It is kind of neat and the 3D rendering and animated fly through are fun.
When you search in Google it will open the first 10 search results pages and line them up in 3D. You then can fly through the pages. This is a good experience, but the delay at the beginning to preload the 10 pages and render them is a turn-off.

3DWin Ritta Stereoscopic Converter for Video Glasses
Japanese 3D Win Corp. offers a device called Ritta - a stereoscopic Converter for Video Glasses.
Ritta is converting standard video into a stereoscopic video experience.
Some HMDs offer this already. They just shift the video for the left and right eye a bit to achieve stereo vision. The results are not that great. It is not clear to me if the Ritta device is more advanced and greats an interesting 3D effect.
