New AMD Fusion Rumors point to RV710 GPU Core

AMD has been talking about the AMD Fusion since 2006. The AMD Fusion will have both the CPU and GPU on the same die, but in different cores.
Rumors have been circulating for a while now on the details of the CPU and GPU chip. A new rumor appeared in Asia on HKEPC claiming that the AMD Fusion codename Shift will be featuring a RV710 architecture. Read more

AMD Quad-Core Opterons Set World Record in Enterprise Benchmark

AMD announced that it will be supporting Microsoft's RTM version of SQL Server 2008. AMD says that SQL Server 2008 running on Opteron quad-core processors will offer best of breed platform for enterprise data needs.

AMD also says that a HP ProLiant DL785 G5 server has set a new world record on the TPC-H@300 GB decision support benchmarks with a score of 52860 QphH. AMD says that these scores prove that its quad-core parts will allow customers to deploy large enterprise solutions with optimum scalability and performance at competitive pricing. Read more

AMD Claims Record Breaking Web server Performance with Quad-core Parts

Big and popular websites can generate huge amounts of traffic, requiring a high-performance server behind the scenes to keep everything running smoothly. AMD says that it has set a new record for web server performance by breaking the SPECweb 2005 scores for 2p and 4p server configurations.

AMD says the record setting performance proves that you don't need proprietary hardware that coast a lot to set up a world-class data center for business use. AMD says that the 2p AMD Opteron system scored 30007 in a HP server using Opteron Model 2356 processors. The 4p system scored 43854 using Opteron Model 8356 CPUs. Read more

Shuttle AMD AM2+ Mini-PC Barebone Kit

Shuttle has announced its latest small form factor barebones system for AMD AM2+ processors. The new system uses the H7 housing design and is suitable for the newest Phenom processors. Shuttle says the machine has 80channel sound with DTS Connect and Dolby Digital Live! certification.

Sound can be transmitted via an optical SPDIF out socket. Graphics for the system are via DirectX 10 compliant NVIDIA GeForce 8200 that can accelerate HD video. Outputs on the rear include a HDMI 1.3 with HDCP port. The system also has a PCI Express slot for a discrete video card. Read more

Toshiba Updates Select Satellite Notebooks with new Features and AMD Platforms

Toshiba has announced that it updated some of its Satellite series notebooks with the new AMD next generation notebook platform. Models receiving upgrades include the P300D, A300D, M300D, U400D, L300D, and L350D.

AMD Phenom X4 9350e and 9950 Black Edition unveiled

AMD introdes three new quad-core Phenom X4 processors. One of the processors, the new 2.6GHz Phenom X4 9950 Black Edition, is AMD's latest flagship desktop CPU. The other two, however, are somewhat surprising "green", low-power quad-cores dubbed the Phenom X4 9350e (2.0GHz) and Phenom X4 9150e (1.8GHz).

With its Black Edition branding, it should be obvious to the power user among you that the Phenom X4 9950 BE is targeted squarely at enthusiasts and overclockers. But the audience for the Phenom X4 9350e and Phenom X4 9150e processors is a little harder to quantify. Read more

AMD Says World’s Fastest Supercomputers Use Opteron’s

AMD says that 3 of the top 5 supercomputers in the world and 7 of the top 20 supercomputers use AMD Opteron processors. AMD says that for the first time ever its processors are in use in the fastest supercomputer in the world.

AMD says that the Opteron-based Ranger supercomputer at the TACC made its first appearance on the top 500 supercomputers list with a ranking of number 4. The Ranger machine has a score of 326 teraflops. The Ranger machine is used for science research and solves problems for weather prediction and climate modeling as well as genetics and medical research. Read more

AMD Announces HD 3870 Mac & PC Edition

AMD announced yesterday a new ATI Radeon HD 3870 for Mac & PC Edition video card. The video card is optimized exclusively for Apple Mac Pro systems and features a 256-bit 512MB GDDR4 frame buffer and 320 stream processors.

The dual DVI ports on the display can support up to two 30-inch Apple Cinema displays. The video card appears to be nothing more than a standard HD 3970 with Mac drivers included. The MSRP for the card is $219 and availability is for June. Read more
