Archos Android Tablet Official
Yesterday's rumors have born fruit! Archos has announced their latest Internet tablet, the Archos 5. This new pocket computer runs on the Android OS, and comes in two different models. You can either get the flash drive version, and go with 16 or 32 GB of storage, or take the HD version and have 160 GB or 500 GB of storage.
The Archos 5 comes with WiFi connectivity, and is Bluetooth enabled. That means it can be tethered with a 3.5G smartphone, for those of you who need your Internet on-the-go. While this tablet is about the same size as a smartphone, it has features any phone would die for. It packs a huge 4.8" touchscreen, GPS, an FM transmitter/receiver, a host of pre-installed apps, 720p HD support, and HDMI out. It's processor is a beastly Ti OMAP3.

Archos Store Down...Android Tablet Coming?
Some of today's zeitgeist seems to be tablet-based. We've been hearing wild rumors about the questionably existent Apple iTablet all day, and now it looks like Archos is going to launch a new tablet themselves. At least, Engadget thinks it's likely.
They note that the Archos Store is down for maintenance. When that happens to an online retailer, it often means they're going through and adding in a new product. Rumors have flown for a while that Archos would launch a new Android-based tablet on the 15th, and now it looks like they were correct.

It's taken a while, but it looks like tablet PCs are finally starting to take off. Apple's new iTablet is rumored for an early 2010 release, but here in 2009 we've got both the CrunchPad, and Archos' new Android Internet tablet to look forward to. Archos isn't just launching a tablet, though, they're heralding the release of a new generation of high-end Android products. It's time Google's OS stopped being a smartphone only affair. This new Archos tablet is a very high-end device, with a 5” WVGA touchscreen, 720p video suppport, HDMI output, up to 500 GB of storage, 7 hours of battery life, a Cortex CPU and 3.5G Internet connectivity. Archos goes even bigger on the Archos 7 with 320GB, but a 7 inch PMP is already very big for a portable without having to use a bag.
