Extech Launches New Digital Mini Microscope and Camera
Extech has unveiled a new mini microscope that integrates a digital camera with a microscope. The device features an optical zoom of 7x to 22x and it has a 4x digital zoom for a total of 108x magnification. Weight for the device is 2.5 ounces and it is more compact than the typical wireless phone.
The device has a 1.8-inch TFT color LCD screen and can be connected to a computer to use the PC LCD to view content in real-time. The microscope is suitable for a variety of tasks from soldering and printed circuit board inspection to fingerprint verification, forensics and more. Read more

Celestron LCD Digital Microscope at CES 2008
Celestron will be showing off another cool product at CES 2008 with its new LCD Digital Microscope with a retail price of $299.99. The microscope has an integrated 3.5-inch LCD screen for viewing subjects.
The microscope has three magnification levels with 4x, 10x, and 40x along with a 4x digital zoom and a six position color filter wheel. Internal storage for still shots and video is 128MB and the built-in digital camera has 2MP. Read more

Phenom Scanning Electron Microscope is Cheap (Comparatively)
Anyone who has taken a class in Microbiology knows how cool it can be to look through a microscope and see things you don’t even know are there in your daily life. To see rally small things, like say atoms, you need a really powerful microscope.
A scanning electron microscope typically costs well over what the Phenom goes for at $85,000. That sounds like a lot, but I could certainly see colleges and wealthy high schools going for one. Read more

The USB microscope can display things 10X, 60X or 200X enlarged and the image can be viewed on the computer monitor. Snapshots, video, and time-lapse movies are possible with this accessory.
The resolution of the images is 640x480 pixels. This is definitely a great gadget gift for young scientists.
