Panasonic DMP-B15 Portable Blu-Ray Wins CES 2010 Award
Today Panasonic won a CES 2010 Innovations award for their DMP-B15, the world's first portable Blu-ray player. The B15 will be shown off at CES 2010 along with all of the other award honorees. It's not hard to see why the B15 won this year. There are no other portable Blu-ray players on the market. If you want to watch your Blu-ray disks while on the go, your options are either the B15, or a really expensive laptop.
The B15 displays its videos on an 8.9" WSVGA LCD screen. It has an Ethernet connection which gives it access to Viera Cast, a Panasonic service through which users can access Amazon Video-on-Demand and YouTube. There's also an SD reader, for the folks who want to transfer their Blu-ray collection to a more portable form. In addition, the B15 has an HDMI input, which allows it to also serve as a standalone Blu-ray player.

Panasonic exhibited a 3D Plasma HDTV setup at the CES 2009 earlier this year. The setup used a 103-inch Plasma. Today Panasonic announced the development of a 50-inch Full HD 3D compatible plasma display panel (PDP) and high-precision active shutter glasses that enable the viewing of theater-quality, true-to-life 3D images in the living rooms.

Sony and Panasonic: 3D Wars?
Okay, so Sony's confirmed that they're bringing 3D to all PlayStation games in 2010. (Engadget) Meanwhile, over at IFA 2009, 3D technology is also making lots of noise. Panasonic has a prototype (StuffTV) for a 3D player and augmented-reality system, and Sony is getting ready to unveil a series of Dolby Real 3D DVD players.
It looks like we're heading straight for a 3D revolution. Both Sony and Panasonic are getting ready to throw a lot of money behind new lines of 3D players. The technology has finally advanced far enough to be practical for mainstream adoption, and people seem pretty psyched for the chance to watch 3D movies and play 3D games on their own television. As the early adopters here, Panasonic and Sony stand to make a lot of money when 3D takes off.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS15 Review
Our review partner Digital Trends tested the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS15 camera and published a review.
Quote from the review: "Panasonic's Lumix DMC-FS15 is a very good mid-priced point-and-shoot camera that's particularly strong at taking close-ups. The unit's small, relatively thin, and light enough to carry in a shirt pocket, but it's loaded with features including a 12 megapixel image sensor and a Leica 28-145mm lens.

Panasonic to make Super-Thin OLED TVs with new Partner
Panasonic partners with Sumitomo Chemical to develop super-thin OLED TV panels.
According to Nikkei News, Panasonic and Sumitomo aim to develop 40 inch OLED TVs by 2010.
OLED TV development is a drag apparently. The 11-inch Sony OLED TV XEL-1 is still the only commercially available OLED TV and it is just too small and too expensive to be taken seriously. Sony is rumored to unveil a 21 or 27 inch OLED TV XEL-2 at the IFA 2009.

Toshiba to Buy Panasonic Shares of Matsushita Displays
Toshiba and Panasonic have been running a joint LCD venture together for a while now called Matsushita Display Technology Co. The joint venture was in the production of LCD panels for computers and other consumer electronics devices. With the poor global economy, it's likely that the venture had fallen on hard times.
Panasonic and Toshiba announced today that Toshiba would be purchasing all of Panasonics shares in the Matsushita displays with the exchange expected to take place on April 28th. After the purchase, Matsushita will be a wholly owned Toshiba subsidy and will be called Toshiba mobile Display Co. Read more

Panasonic Announces GH1 Micro Four Thirds Camera
I once made the mistake of calling Panasonic's micro four thirds cameras DSLRs, which is an easy mistake to make considering they look like DSLRs and have interchangeable lenses. The problem is that the micro four thirds cameras lack a mirror box, which is apparently required to be a DSLR.
Anyway, Panasonic has let loose a few details of its coming DMC-GH1 micro four thirds camera that will feature 1080p video capability. The camera is set to hit the Japanese market on April 24th in a bundle selling for somewhere near $1500 with a kit lens. Read more

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 Review
Our review partner Digital Trends published a review of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 camera and gave it high marks. Panasonic unveiled the classic style DMC-LX3 in July of 2008.
Quote from the review: "However, at the high-end of the compact category, things move at a much more leisurely pace, with select manufacturers introducing one or two killer models that usually hang around for awhile. Canon’s 14.7MP PowerShot G10 is a fine example, as is the 10-megapixel LX3 we’re reviewing now. These cameras are for shutterbugs looking for DSLR quality, but without the hassle of carrying a bag of lenses. They’re also willing to spend close to 500 clams at a time when the prices of aim-and-forget are falling to the center of the Earth.
