Xbox 360 beats PS3 in Japan because of Tales of Vesperia
Xbox 360 sales have been rather low since the launch in Japan. In the week ending August 10th Microsoft sold a surprising 24,962 units and outsold the Sony PS3 (9,673) by far.
The reason seems to be the release of Bandai’s Tales of Vesperia that sold over 100,000 copies in the first week according to Media Create.
Like in the United States the Wii is still on top of the Xbox 360 and PS3, but both handheld gaming systems sold more than the Wii in that week.

How the Wii is Beating the Xbox 360 and PS3
Our friends over at Digital Trends analyze why the Wii is beating the Xbox 360 and the PS3. There is a rumor that the Xbox 360 Arcade will be soon selling below $200. Still, consumers are still likely to pay $50 more for a Wii in my opinion than go for the cheaper Xbox 360 if they can get one.
Quote: "Nintendo has gotten family and friends involved with their system without the multimedia sharing capabilities that the other systems offer.

Video Rental on Xbox 360 and PS3 in U.S., but what about the rest of the World?
Microsoft partnered with Netflix to bring movie rental to the Xbox 360 and Sony launched their own video rental and download for the PS3 yesterday. Both offerings are only available in the United States.
I just tested if I can access the video download section of the Playstation Store on the PS3 from Europe. I have accounts for each of the major Playstation Stores (US, Europe, Asia), but when logging in to the U.S. Playstation Store the Video section is disabled.

Xbox 360 and Netflix Deal, how will Sony's PS3 counter that?
Microsoft announced yesterday at the E3 2008 briefing a partnership with movie rental service Netflix. Xbox 360 Xbox LIVE Gold members who are also Netflix subscribers can this holiday season instantly stream movies and TV episodes from Netflix.
This pretty huge, as Netflix is the largest online movie rental service in the world. With the exclusive deal Microsoft gives the Xbox 360 a pretty strong media presence in the living room, despite lacking Blu-ray support.
For those with limited broadband connectivity the Xbox 360 Netflix deal is of course not adding to their experience. A disc based movie playback is still important in my opinion.
Later today Sony has its turn to counter the Xbox 360 Netflix deal in their E3 2008 press-conference.
