The Zhu Zhu Pets are the hottest holiday toys of 2009 and are extremely hard to find at the original really low price of $8.
Cepia the maker of the Zhu Zhu Pets is cranking out 220,000 hamsters a day, but it is still not enough. Besides scanning online stores, ToysRUs on Black Friday is the best next opportunity to score a Zhu Zhu at normal pricing and not pay 6x or more.
Cepia has published a teaser on what they call Season 2 of Zhu Zhu Pets. The 2010 Zhu Zhu Pets will feature new hamsters and new accessories.

ToysRUs just announced their promotions for Black Friday 2009. One that stands out is the announcement that they'll have tens of thousands of Zhu Zhu Pets in stock starting Black Friday in ToysRUs stores.
On top of that the first 100 customers in line at their local Toys"R"Us store on Black Friday will each be given a ticket for the opportunity to purchase a Zhu Zhu Pet (with a limit of one per household).

The Zhu Zhu Hamster Is Already 6x Overpriced

The hottest holiday toy of 2009 has already reached an outrageous price point that is 6x the price Walmart sells a Zhu Zhu Hamster for, that is when they have it in stock.
The eBay listings for a single Zhu Zhu Hamster are at $50 for Buy Now offers. On Amazon, third party shops offer Zhu Zhu in the range of $42.75 to well over $50.

We are still about six weeks away from Christmas and the question is how high the prices for Pipsqueek, Mr. Squiggles, Num Nums and Chunk will go up? Should you still try to find a Zhu Zhu at Walmart or ToysRUs or buy at the current prices?

CEPIA Produces 220,000 Zhu Zhu Pets Per Day And They Are Still Out Of Stock

The Zhu Zhu Pets are the hottest holiday toy for 2009. I have not seen anything like this since Furby. The Zhu Zhu hamsters are very basic electronic gadgets far less advanced as the Furby was way back. That is why a Hamster does normally not cost more than $8 to $10, but the demand drove the prices up for a Zhu Zhu Hamster to almost $50 on Amazon.

Bloomberg has today an interesting story that looks a bit behind the Zhu Zhu Pets success and it makes it even more amazing. CEPIA LCC, the creator of the Zhu Zhu Pets has only 16 employees n the United States. The company has 30 more employees in China where four factories produce 220,000 Zhu Zhu Pets per day.
In August Cepia started the production with the first 600,000 Zhu Zhu Pets and they hit the jackpot as kids fell in love with the little hamsters.

Walmart Removed $8 Zhu Zhu From Holiday Savings Page

Yesterday we reported that Walmart features on their Holiday Savings page besides the $100 Gift Card Deal with BlackBerry Phones purchases a list of toys including the hard to find Zhu Zhu Pets hamster at the low price of $8.

Walmart now features on their Holiday Savings page a list of toys alongside the previously mentioned $100 Gift Card Deal with BlackBerry Phones purchases.
Among the toys listed, the hard to find Zhu Zhu Pets hamster at the low price of $8 stands out.
Update: Walmart has removed the Zhu Zhu Hamster from the Holiday Savings page. I assume they are out of stock.

Walmart always has the Zhu Zhu Hamsters listed online for $8 (See our Zhu Zhu Pets Shopping Guide), but I never saw them in stock.
Now that Walmart published the $8 Zhu Zhu on the Holiday Savings page, I would assume they actually have them in stock in stores now.
