The application puts a Zippo lighter on the screen that can be customized.

Opening the lid of the lighter can be done by sliding a finger across the lid or by flicking the wrist to fling the lid open. To light the flame on the virtual lighter you slide your finger across the flint wheel. Once lit, the flame sways back and forth when the iPhone is moved. Read more

HELSINKI (Reuters) - Nokia, the world's top mobile phone maker, will launch its free music package on Thursday, issuing a challenge to Apple's dominance of the digital music market.
Nokia is expected to unveil more details of its "Comes with Music" package at an analyst and media event in London. The Finnish firm will also launch its first touch-screen phone, to rival Apple's popular iPhone, sources have told Reuters.
"Comes with Music" and similar products from other hardware vendors could help the music industry make up for falling CD sales and cut illegal downloads.

This was way over due. Now iPhone developers can finally share best practices and tools. Now there will be iPhone developer books and more.
Apple argues in an announcement on the Apple site that the NDA was necessary to protect Apple inventions and innovations. Apple has filed for hundreds of patents on iPhone technology and the company felt that the NDA added yet another level of protection. Read more

The details on what the iPhone Flash player would actually be supported are still unkown.
Given that many sites use Flash in the layout it is important to support Flash on web pages. Additionally many videos are only offered through Flash video players, which do not currently play on the iPhone. Read more

The one thing about the device that takes the most getting used to is the on-screen keyboard. You do get used to it after a while, but I would be very hesitant to use it for anything other than the occasional email or text message.

iPhone users who miss the ability to be able to type spreadsheets will be glad to hear that Softalk has a new iPhone spreadsheet application. The application is called Spreadsheet, has 50 different functions, and can be sent via the iPhone email to other people to be opened in Excel 2003 or higher. Read more

A new oddity is from Smule and it is called the Sonic Lighter. The application sells for $0.99 and is designed to take advantage of everything the iPhone can do.

The application puts the striker wheel and flame from an old school lighter on the screen and then allows users to manipulate the flame with multi-touch and tilt input. The application uses something called Sonic Modem taking advantage of the iPhone mic and speaker to light nearby Sonic Lighters. The speaker can also be used to blow out the flame. Read more

The latest version of the mobile that combines a phone with a music and video player was chosen by readers of Stuff magazine in its annual Gadget of the Year awards.
The magazine described the iPhone 3G as "a faster, cleverer version of an already remarkable phone." The phone's first incarnation, launched in Britain last year, won the coolest gadget prize at last year's ceremony.
