Overview
So, you think you’ve experienced the best
sound has to offer with your 5.1, 7.1 digital surround sound home
theater system? Think again. For those of us about to rock, we
salute you, Pyramat, for an amazing, creative and comfortable way to
listen to any kind of audio you can imagine. If you’re like me, you
love to integrate every gadget and high tech piece of equipment you
own and you use your imagination to do it just like I do. Why not
be able to do all of that and be “lazy” at the same time.
These “loungers” are primarily designed for the serious “gamers” in all
of us, but believe me they are not one-dimensional. For the audio/videophiles,
don’t worry, this will quench your thirst for premium sound AND
comfort (hard to find both today).
Upon opening the boxed lounger, I discovered it was packed tightly.
This is great, as we all know those packages received are sometimes
“mishandled” here in the US frequently. The Sound Lounger PM 550
(latest model) is folded into sections, which unfurl nicely to
spread on the floor for instant use. Each section folds back up
just as neatly and even includes a snap lock adjustable strap that
serves to hold the one-piece sections together for convenient
storage or carrying. Normally, in today’s manufacturing world, we
see the proverbial “blah” black, white, or silver color palettes.
Not the Sound Lounger. This beast lets you know it’s ready for some
serious audio wildness with the orange base color, silver integrated
cross-tones and black grille-look at the head of the unit where the
subwoofer is encased. Get your racing gear on and put the pedal to
the metal. Or, to give you an example of the full range of this
trendsetter; sit back and relax to the music of Beethoven, New Age
or the soothing sounds of nature CD. The PM550 can handle it all
and your whole family will now be fighting over who jumps on the
lounger first. Hey, lay sideways and two can enjoy the sounds
together.
The PM550 is ergonomically designed with thick, comfortable cushions and
triangular headrest. In fact, the entire lounger folds into a tri
shape, again, for ease in mobility/portability. The cushions even
have zippers, which I love, personally, as I plan to make it even
more comfortable (hey, I love to fall asleep on it too) by filling
in with micro polystyrene beads (you know, the stuff used in all
those “squish” pillows). Just goes to show you Pyramat designers
thought of everything; almost. So, what’s “under the hood” you ask?
A fairly sizeable “engine” for all of your audio needs in complete
comfort.
Lay the Sound Lounger completely flat near any sources of input/output
audio/video equipment and use the included 2.74 meter (9’) RCA jack
cables or if you prefer a greater distance, go out and spend that
hard earned money on your own RCA audio cables. The cables
conveniently connect via an extended rubberized pad at the end of
the lounger to ensure you don’t become entangled during the
screaming, jumping, rolling and yelling you will be doing while
playing games or listening to your favorite music. Two audio outs,
two audio ins and one jack for your power cord are all that’s needed
to get you revving up the motor on it and they’re all recessed into
the lounger.
How-To Create and Earthquake
It’s your choice how you want to configure the lounger. Again, I like
using my imagination, so use yours too. Hook up your MP3 player,
personal media player (PMP), PSP, Nintendo, stereo, plasma,
television, projector, radio or anything else with audio present.
Did I say guitars too? Hmmm, yep, with the appropriate cable jack
connections. Once “linked” up, now you can create additional sound
sources in the room to go along with the PM550 and shake the entire
neighborhood. I hooked mine up to all of the above including my
14.2 (yes, really) THX certified howitzer system. Just mix in your
THX computer sound system with your home theater production and the
whole city wakes up! Add in the Pyramat PM550 and I’ve got
instantaneous 16.3 pumping (I’ll never go to sleep again, but no one
else will either). I really tested the speaker system on this speed
demon and I had no distortion at even the highest levels. The bass
from the subwoofer will vibrate you, the floor and anyone not nailed
to the floor. It also provides a soothing massage effect to your
neck and back (when in the seated position). Did I say you can
configure this into a chair with great back support too? There you
go gamers! It contains a 100-watt amplifier, 4” subwoofer and two
speakers all contained in the headrest for premium sound right where
you need it. Use the included remote control to adjust the volume
and bass, and power on/off. When you’re not using the remote, the
lounger has a nifty little slider pocket to hide it in. They even
have a small table you can fit over this lounger in the folded
position. Now, you’re ready to “Vroom…(oops, can’t use that tagline
as some car company might be calling me. Ok, how about “boom, boom,
boom”. You get the picture).
Pyramat Feature Suggestions
Now, I will inject (have to keep the Pyramat
engineers and designers busy!) some recommendations for accessories,
add-ons, and nice-to-have items.
1.
The adjustable snap strap
is nice, but include loops in the sections to run the strap through
for safety and easier handling along with a shoulder pad (we carry
it room-to-room)
2.
If no loops or shoulder
strap; how about a thin luggage rack as an accessory to pull it with
(have to take it with you on those long trips)
3.
For all of those devices
you will be using this with, it would be nice to see a portable,
adjustable “holder” for them (especially gamers)
4.
Would love many different
colors to fit in the home environment and satisfy the individual
tastes. Personalization “skins” would certainly enhance the look of
the lounger also
5.
Integrated adjustable,
detachable armrests for the seated gamer position (beer cup holder
is optional; maybe should be standard to soothe the nerves after
those wild games…)
6.
This “portable” lounger is
perfectly suited for the outdoors (parks, beach (don’t kick sand,
please) and I would love to take it there), but we just need an
optional battery pack (integrate into the headrest or a separate
system). It will increase the weight, but well worth it for
mobility purposes
7.
A cargo net or zippered
pouch on the bottom of the last sectional pad to keep the
cords/cables stored neatly and conveniently
8.
Lastly, for the “coolness”
factor, light this thing up with LED alongside the sectional pads
the entire length

well worth it. Enjoy! You deserve it.
